Whiplash trionfa al Sundance Film Festival

Si è concluso lo scorso weekend il SundanceFilm Festival, il più importante festival cinematografico dedicato al cinema indipendente che si svolge ogni anno nel mese di gennaio a Park City e che dagli anni ’80 vede come testimonial e mecenate Robert Redford.

Il grande vincitore di questa edizione è stato Whiplash, il dramma di Damien Chazelle difatti ha vinto sia il Premio del pubblico che il Gran Premio della Giuria – quest’anno presieduta dal regista Bryan Singer (I soliti sospetti, X-men). Il film racconta la storia drammatica di un giovane batterista jazz (Miles Teller) che aspira alla grandezza sotto la guida suo spietato istruttore (JK Simmons).

Il giovanissimo Damein Chazelle, classe 1985, dopo una deviazione nell’horror e nel thriller come sceneggiatore di Grand Piano (presentato in Italia allo scorso Torino Film Festival) e di Last Exorcism, con questa sua seconda opera da regista ritorna ai temi e alle atmosfere del suo film d’esordio (Guy and Madeline on a Park Bench, 2009) tutto incentrato attorno alla musica jazz.
