ARTE ISLAMICA

CHRISTIE’S. Londra, 5/7/8 aprile 2011

Le vendite di arte islamica da Christie’s a Londra hanno totalizzato 15.7 milioni di sterline. (87% sold by value). William Robinson, Director and Head of Islamic Art, Christie’s London:“The results of our auctions this week at both King Street and South Kensington illustrate the continuing demand across the entire market for works of art from the Islamic and Indian worlds. This season Indian works of art were particularly sought after, notably the metalwork from the Simon Digby Collection. The Ottoman Turkish market is also extremely vibrant with very high prices achieved for manuscripts, Iznik pottery and metalwork in both locations. The resurgence in demand for rugs and carpets noted last year continued with strong prices for Persian and classical (pre-1800) carpets. The salerooms were consistently full of private and trade buyers competing for the works of art. Buying was particularly active from the Middle East, but also spread from Tokyo in the East to California in the West”.
