02.02.2016 – Serata tranquilla da Christie’s a King Street. Nessun grande brivido e aggiudicazioni che hanno rispettato le aspettative per questo appuntamento londinese con l’arte impressionista, moderna e surrealista.
Le due aste hanno complessivamente totalizzato 95.917.100 £ (contro gli oltre 146 milioni delle due omologhe vendite 2015). Rispettivamente 66,430,000 £ per i moderni e 29,487,100 £ per i surrealisti. Poco al di sopra delle stime, che per le due evening sale si aggiravano tra gli 87,4 e i 92,9 milioni.
Potremmo parlare di magnifici sette.. . Non come riferimento al numero di lotti, ma per i milioni raggiunti dalle tre opere che hanno conquistato il podio: £7,642,500 per lo “Stolen Mirror” di Max Ernst; £7,250,500 per l’autoritratto di Egon Schiele e £7,026,500 per gli sposi di Marc Chagall .
Max Ernst era presentato a 7-10 milioni di sterline ed era l’opera di punta della serata. Ma Ernst non ha battuto se stesso: il top price d’asta è rimasto fermo al 2011 quando questo stesso dipinto fu venduto per 10.124.846 £ ($ 16,322,500) da Christie’s a New York realizzando il record per l’artista.
L’autoritratto di Egon Schiele del 1909 dopo pochi rilanci si è fermato a £7,250,500, dunque in linea con la stima di 6-8 milioni sterline. E il tenero autoritratto di Marc Chagall e la moglie con la città di Parigi sullo sfondo è arrivato, dopo una bella gara, a £7,026,500.
Nelle stime anche il paesaggio di Paul Cézanne, “Ferme en Normandie, été (Hattenville)” del 1882. La tela, la più grande di una serie di quattro che Cézanne ha realizzato durante un soggiorno estivo in Normandia a casa del suo amico e collezionista Victor Chocquet, non compariva in asta da 20 anni. Nel 1997 fu acquistato per 3.081.500 £. Questa sera il buyer ha guadagnato oltre 2 milioni di sterline.
Molti minuti di rilanci per l’esile figura femminile tipica di Alberto Giacometti battuta a £1,082,500 (stima: 400-600,000 £) e per la formosa donna colta durante la toilette da Pierre Auguste Renoir che, partita da 1,800,000, è arrivata a £3,890,500. Il “Ritratto” di Paul Cézanne del 1866-1867 ha quadruplicato la stima più bassa fermandonsi a £1,202,500.
Nel catalogo dedicato al surrealismo, molto contesi “Pêcheurs au soleil” di Salvador Dalí che è passato di mano per £1,178,500 (st. 700-1,000,000 £) e “Femme et oiseaux dans la nuit” di Joan Miró battuto a £5,794,500 (st. 3- 5,000,000 £)
Sui cinquanta lotti del catalogo degli impressionisti e moderni, dodici sono rimasti invenduti e due sono stati ritirati prima dell’asta. Quello dell’arte surrealista di quarantadue opere, ne ha contate nove invendute e due ritirate.
Nuovi record d’asta per Georg Scholz con “Badische Kleinstadt bei Tage” a £1,202,500 e per Peter Rose Pulham con “Grisaille Figures I” a £12,500.
