Da Zurbaràn a Guido Reni. Londra si veste d’antico

Come ogni anno, il mese di dicembre è dedicato all’arte antica.

A Londra dal 3 dicembre le due major Christie’s e Sotheby’s propongono una ventina di aste dedicate al mondo Old Master. Sotheby’s esita quattro cataloghi che percorrono un arco temporale di sei secoli tra dipinti, disegni, sculture e miniature. Top lot della Evening Sale del 4 dicembre sarà un “Cristo in croce” di Francisco de Zurbaràn. L’olio emana uno straordinario potere che deriva dalla sua pura semplicità. Inchiodato su una croce sbozzata, il corpo di Cristo emerge dall’oscurità impenetrabile, illuminato solo da una luce brillante dall’alto e a sinistra. Stima 2,5-3,5 milioni di sterline.

Da Christie’s invece la “Classic Week” inizia il 3 dicembre e prosegue fino al 13 dicembre. L’offerta (ben 15 aste) spazia dall’antichità al XX secolo. Il top lot è per Giovanni di Paolo, uno dei maestri visionari della metà del Quattrocento senese, con un pannello a tempera e oro che raffigura “Santa Chiara in soccorso del naufragio” (1,5-2 milioni).
