12.11.2014 , New York – La evening sale da Christie’s ha realizzato $852,887,000, con 75 lotti venduti su 80 offerti, superando di gran lunga le aspettative di 600 milioni.
Primo e secondo posto nella top ten per Andy Warho l, con due opere alla prima apparizione sul mercato: Triple Elvis (Ferus Type) , eseguito nel 1963 e Four Marlons del 1966. Due tele fortemente rappresentative non solo dello stile dell’artista, ma anche identitarie degli anni in cui sono state realizzate. Erano presentate entrambe con stima “a richiesta” e sono state rispettivamente aggiudicate per $81,925,000 e $69,605,000. I tre Elvis sono stati venduti al telefono a un bidder europeo.
Terzo classificato Cy Twombly che con $69,605,000 si è aggiudicato un posto sul podio e soprattutto ha realizzato il suo nuovo record d’asta. Il grande “Untitled” del 1970 (155.5 x 190 cm.) era stato comprato direttamente dall’artista ed era presentato a una stima di 35/55 milioni $. Lo ha acquistato al telefono a un bidder europeo. Tra i primi dieci lotti, oltre a Twombly, sono stati realizzati altri tre record: de Kooning, Ruscha, Kippenberger.
Secondo Carol Vogel del New York Times “Smash” di Ed Ruscha dipinto nel 1963, dopo una gara tra 5 offerenti è stato acquistato da Larry Gagosian , lo “squalo” di Manhattan per $30,405,000, molto al di sopra della stima più alta di $20 milioni. Sempre secondo la Vogel, Gagosian avrebbe acquistato anche “Untitled” di Martin Kippenberger del 1988 per $22.5 milioni.
Fiore all’occhiello dell’espressionismo astratto della scultura del XX secolo, “Clamdigger” di Willem de Kooning è stata venduta per $29,285,000 e ha realizzato il nuovo record d’asta per una scultura dell’artista.
“E’ il totale più alto di sempre” ha dichiarato Brett Gorvy presidente e capo internazionale del dipartimento di Post-War & Contemporary Art di Christie’s “Abbiamo visto molti nuovi bidder dal Medio Oriente e dall’Asia, ma i più grandi e potenti buyer sono ancora americani”

Nuovo record per Jasper Johns : la sua bandiera è stata venduta per $36 milioni, realizzando anche il secondo top price della serata. Nuovi record per Glenn Ligon, Jean Dubuffet , Alexander Calder (il suo “Personnage” è stato venduto per $1.9 milioni, il prezzo più alto per un dipinto dell’artista) e Robert Ryman con “Untitled (1961)” che ha raggiunto i $15 milioni, duplicando il suo record d’asta precedente.

Al primo posto della top ten Mark Rothko con “No. 21 (Red, Brown, Black and Orange)”, un’opera del 1953 della collezione Schumberger venduto per $45 milioni. Risultato importante che segue quello di oltre milioni della vendita di atri due Rothko nell’asta della collezione Mellon che si è tenuta sempre da Sotheby’s a New York il 10 novembre (158.7 M $ e 100% di venduto). Sommando anche i risultati ottenuti dalle opere di Rothko, Diebenkorn e Lucio Fontana dell’asta Mellon, si raggiungunoe i $460,268,000.
Terzo posto per Andy Warhol e le sue dive: “Liz #3 [Early Colored Liz]” ha fatto $31.5 milioni, mentre una Brigitte Bardot della collezione di Gunter Sachs $11.6 milioni.
Alexander Rotter , co-responsabile worldwide di Sotheby’s per l’arte contemporanea, commenta: “È stato un ottimo inizio per la nostra settimana di aste di Arte Contemporanea, con un totale corrente oltre i 460 milioni di dollari e una day sale molto forte alle porte.
