We are also delighted to announce that the second edition of Armory Focus will turn its attention to Latin America. This invitation-only component of The Armory Show, Armory Focus: Latin Americafeatures galleries from Argentina, Brazil, Chile, Colombia, Mexico, Peru, and Venezuela. Armory Focus: Latin America includes 21 of Latin America’s leading emerging and established galleries. “New York City has long been a center of Latin American art,” says Katelijne De Backer, Armory Show executive director. “Armory Focus: Latin America will highlight this vital force in the city’s—and the world’s—art scene.”
To coincide with Armory Focus: Latin America, The Armory Show is expanding the range of Latin American-themed events in its citywide and Armory Circle program, and has commissioned Mexican artist Gabriel Kurito create the visual identity for the 2011 fair. Kuri’s artwork, which combines everyday detritus and commonplace materials in poetic juxtapositions, will set the aesthetic for the fair’s graphics and will be featured in all its advertising and marketing materials and will be showcased in the catalogue. This will be the tenth year The Armory Show has commissioned an artist to define the image of the fair.
The Armory Show, one of the top international art fairs, has become an international institution, combining a selection of the world’s leading galleries with an unsurpassed program of art events and exhibitions at Piers 92 and 94 and throughout New York City. Every March, artists, galleries, collectors, critics and curators from all over the world make New York their destination during Armory Arts Week.
Armory Arts Week will continue to underscore the city’s extraordinary art communities. “For the 13th edition of The Armory Show, The Armory Arts Week website will provide the most user friendly guide to all of the events our cultural partners are producing along with all of the fairs that The Armory Show works with,” notes Paul Morris, Vice President of Art Shows & Events.
