La top ten delle opere più care vendute nel primo semestre 2020

-49% nella prima metà del 2020: è la percentuale di calo di vendite registrato nel primo semestre rispetto allo stesso periodo nel 2019. Bacon guida la top ten delle opere più care vendute nel primo semestre 2020

Secondo il rapporto “Auction Review—1st Half 2020” di ArtTactic -citato dal Financial Times- le vendite delle tre major principali attive sul mercato dell’arte Christie’s, Sotheby’s e Phillips arrivano a 2,9 miliardi, un totale quasi dimezzato rispetto ai 5,7 miliardi del primo semestre 2019 (-49%)

L’analisi del report si estende fino al 10 luglio e lascia fuori l’ultima grande asta di Sotheby’s del 28 luglio dal titolo “Rembrandt To Richter” che ha totalizzato 149,730,290 sterline (circa 193 milioni di dollari), con nuovi record per un autoritratto di Rembrandt (£14,549,400) e un lavoro di Paolo Uccello (2,415,000 £).

La spinta dell’online

La notizia della diminuzione del giro d’affari non sorprende nessuno, perchè con il lockdown e l’impossibilità di muoversi liberamente per il mondo, questo scenario da crisi Covid-19 era abbastanza prevedibile. L’online è diventato l’unico canale di vendita e promozione per gran parte degli attori del settore.

Sempre dall’analisi di ArtTactic, emerge che le aste esclusivamente online sono aumentate del 497%, da $69 milioni a $412,6 milioni. Con una crescita di Sotheby’s del 976% ($ 305,2 milioni).

Dal report si evince anche come la piazza di Hong Kong continui a guadagnare quote di mercato come sede privilegiata per gli acquisti di fascia alta. Non a caso in classifica compaiono più risultati di opere battute proprio ad Hong Kong.  Dalla top ten appare chiaro come l’arte del dopoguerra e contemporanea abbia guidato la prima metà del 2020. La maggior parte dei top price sono stati venduti nelle “big auction” del 29 giugno di Sotheby’s e in quella del 10 luglio di Christie’s (l’asta “ONE”).

Al primo posto si attesta il grande trittico di Francis Bacon ispirato dall’Orestea di Eschilo venduto per 84,550,000 $ (stima 60–80 milioni). Questo lavoro del 1981 – uno dei 28 trittici di grande formato (h 198 cm) che Bacon ha creato tra il 1962 e il 1991-è stato il primo esemplare dall’iconica serie di grandi trittici di Bacon ad apparire in asta dal 2014. Nel 2013, “Three Studies of Lucian Freud” del 1969 era stato venduto da Christie’s a New York per $ 142 milioni, l’attuale record d’asta dell’artista.

Secondo classificato un altro grande del Novecento. Roy Lichtenstein con il suo “Nude with Joyous Painting” venduto nell’asta “ONE” a 46,242,500 dollari. Dipinto nel 1994 e appartenente a un’importante collezione privata americana, fa parte dell’ultima grande serie di nudi che l’artista ha iniziato nel 1993 e continuato fino alla sua morte nel 1997. Questo dipinto segna il ritorno di Lichtenstein alle eroine dei fumetti che lo hanno spinto alla fama nei primi anni ’60.

Terzo posto per quello che è considerato da molti il “Matisse cinese”, Sanyu. L’interesse per l’artista negli ultimi anni è cresciuto notevolmente tra i collezionisti. L’artista franco cinese ha guidato l’asta di Sotheby’s di arte moderna dello scorso 8 luglio a Hong Kong con il lavoro degli anni ’50 “Quatre nus (Four Nudes)” battuto a $ 33,3 milioni. E’ il secondo prezzo più alto per Sanyu in asta. Il primo risale a solo pochi mesi fa, quando “Five nudes”, un altro olio su masonite degli anni Cinquanta, è stato battuto da Christie’s a 38.851.106 $.

In classifica molti altri big dell’arte contemporanea e del dopoguerra, come Barnett Newman e Brice Marden, che hanno realizzato entrambi 30,9 milioni di dollari (nell’asta One di Christie’s), mentre sono stati venduti da Sotheby’s “The Splash” di David Hockney battuto a febbraio a Londra a 29,8 milioni e un raro Clyfford Still, “PH-144 (1947-Y-No.1)” del 1947, che ha fruttato 28,7 milioni.

Venduto da Christie’s il “titano” dell’arte moderna in classifica, Pablo Picasso con “Les femmes d’Alger (version ‘F’)” a 29,2 milioni. Mentre è da Sotheby’s che l’olio di Joan Miró del 1927 intitolato “Painting (Woman in a Red Hat)” è stato aggiudicato per 28,6 milioni. Infine di nuovo Lichtenstein con una iconica pennellata bianca da 25,4 milioni, sempre da Sotheby’s.
