Francesco Alverà, Head of the Jewellery Department at Christie’s Italy, commented: “Christie’s jewellery sales in Milan achieved very strong results thanks to an extraordinary participation of both national and international buyers (from 25 different countries). Totalling more than €4.8 / $6.5 million, the auctions fetched +11% over November last year, with 159 lots sold above the high estimate. We are very pleased with the results obtained by a private collection of rare jewels by Castellani and Giuliano which sold 83% by lot, totalling €366.360 ($487,625). More than tripling its high estimate, the top lot of the sale was a magnificent four strands natural pearl necklace, which sold for €971,000 ($1,292,401) becoming a new record price for any jewel sold at auction in Italy.”
