Christie’s, 15.05.2013 – La  Evening Sale ha totalizzato $495,021,500 con il 94 % di venduto. Bidders da tutto il mondo hanno lottato per conquistarsi capolavori dell’Espressionismo astratto dell’arte  Pop e contemporanea, come Jackson Pollock, Roy Lichtenstein e Jean-Michel Basquiat. 16 nuovi record sono stati stabiliti,  9 lotti sono stati venduti oltre i 10 milioni di dollari, 23 oltre i $5 milioni e 59 oltre $1 milione. Tra i lavori dell’Espressionismo Astratto Number 19, 1948 di Jackson Pollock è stato aggiudicato a $58,363,750 (£38,520,075/ €45,523,725), nuovo record mondiale per l’artista in asta. Proviene da una prestigiosa fondazione americana ed è stato oggetto di una dura battaglia tra collezionisti in sala e al telefono. I dipinti di Roy Lichtenstein e Andy Warhol hanno confermato il loro valore: Lichtenstein con Woman with Flowered Hat del 1963 ha realizzato un nuovo record mondiale per l’artista con $56,123,750 (£37,041,675/ €43,776,525), mentre Nude with Yellow Flower del 1994 ha realizzato $23,643,750 (£15,604,875/ € 18,442,125). L’autoritratto di Warhol del 1966 è stato aggiudicato a $5,219,750 (£3,445,035/ €4,071,405). La domanda per artisti contemporanei è stata molto forte: soprattutto per Dustheads di Jean-Michel Basquiat. E’ stato aggiudicato a $48,843,750 (£32,236,875/ € 38,098,125) e ha realizzato un nuovo record mondiale per l’artista in asta, con uno scarto notevole rispetto al precendente  di $26.4 milioni realizzato sempre da Christie’s a novembre 2012. Un altro lavoro di Basquiat, Furious man proveniente dalla collezione di  Andy Williams Collection ha superato il precedente record per un’opera su carta con $5,723,750 (£3,777,675/ € 4,464,525). Prezzi notevoli per i Maestri europei: un Achrome di Piero Manzoni  è stato venduto per $14,123,750- nuovo record mondiale – a un collezionista europeo.  Abstraktes Bild, Dunkel (613-2) di Gerhard Richter ha realizzato  $21,963,750, superando la stima massima.Segnaliamo qualche nota sugli acquirenti dei tre top price della serata: secondo Carol Vogel del NYtimes, il Pollock era sato per diverso tempo di proprietà dei François Pinault, che lo comprò d Christie’s nel 1993 per “solo”   $2.4 milioni. Mentre la donna con il cappello di Lichtenstein sembra sia stata messa in vendita  da  Ronald O. Perelman (un investitore newyorkese) e acquistata dal gioielliere londinese Laurence Graff.

Sotheby’s, 14.05.2013 – La Evening Sale ha totalizzato 293,587,000 dollari con un  82.8% di venduto per lotto. Nuovi record sono stati stabiliti per  Barnett Newman, Gerhard Richter (nuovo record anche per una artista vivente), Nate Lowman, Dan Colen, e per una scultura di Yves Klein. Le opere vendute per contribuire al finanziamento di un nuovo edificio per il Whitney Museum of American Art hanno realizzato $12 milioni, ben al di sopra della loro stima (altri lotti verranno venduti nella Day Sale). Il top price dell’asta è stata l’opera di Barnett Newman, Onement VI, che è stata aggiudicata  a $43,845,000: oltre venti milioni in più rispetto al record precedente. L’opera monumentale, realizzata nel 1953, non solo è una delle più importanti realizzate dall’artista, ma è anche una delle più importanti dell’ Espressionismo Astratto. “Domplatz, Mailand di Gerhard Richter è stato venduto per $37,125,000: oltre 10 volte il rezzo realizzato in asta da Sotheby’s a Londra oltre 15 anni fa. Gli otto lotti venduti per il Whitney erano stimati 6.6 milioni di dollari ed hanno realizzato quasi il doppio: $11,806,000. I lotti migliori:  John Currin con “Lydian” ($2,965,000) e  Jasper Johncon “Untitled”  ($2,853,000). Tra gli altri highlight “The Blue Unconscious” di Jackson Pollock, con $20,885,000, la monumentale scultura  di Yves Klein con $22,005,000; “Ocean Park No. 46″di Richard Diebenkorn con $11,085,000 e “Untitled (Bolsena)” di Cy Twombly con $15,397,000 (il secondo prezzo più alto per l’artista in asta)
