CHRISTIE’S. Dubai, 30 ottobre 2008
La vendita ha realizzato $8,655,000 con 108 lotti venduti su 155 offerti e tre nuovi record mondiali stabiliti. Di seguito due commenti: William Lawrie, International Modern and Contemporary Art specialist and head of sale: “We saw great commitment from private Middle Eastern collectors for many of the exceptional works at this evening’s sale, and we saw strong results for Arab art in particular with 16 works selling for over $100,000. Modern and Contemporary art of the Middle Eastern region has risen to international prominence in a very short time, and is now recognized and celebrated at an international level. For the first time, we offered Turkish art at the sale and we are pleased that 13 works realized a total of $596,750. The selective bidding in some areas of this evening’s auction represents a settling of prices in some areas. We welcomed a significant number of new Middle Eastern collectors at the sale.’ Jussi Pylkkänen, President of Christie’s Middle East and Europe: “Since our first auction in the Middle East in 2006, Christie’s sales in Dubai have become a notable fixture of the international auction calendar. There is an enormous appetite and appreciation for art in the Middle East region. As last night, tonight’s auction saw Middle Eastern buying dominate the sale, and this evening we saw Arab art in particular perform strongly. Not only has Dubai established itself as an international sales centre with increasing numbers of clients participating in its auctions, but we have also seen a significant number of Middle Eastern collectors engage in our auctions elsewhere around the world, including our sales in London, New York, Hong Kong.”
