(£141,764,889 / €162,037,782) con 46 lotti venduti su 61 offerti (Sold by Lot: 75.4%). Stima pre sala: 195/266 milioni di dollari. Nuovo record mondiale per Amedeo Modigliani, Nu assis sur un divan (La Belle Romaine), stimata oltre 40 milioni di dollari, ha realizzato $68,962,500, il prezzo più alto archiviato in questa categoria a New York dal 2006 quando “Dora Maar au chat” del 1941 di Pablo Picasso, fu venduta per $95,216,000 (3 maggio 2006). Oltre questa, quattro opere sono state vendute per oltre 5 milioni di dollari e 38 per oltre 1 milione di dollari.

“We are delighted with the results of our sale, which build on the success of the past year, and are our best in this category in New York since May 2008,” ha commentato Simon Shaw, Head of Sotheby’s Impressionist and Modern Art Department in New York. “It was a great night for Modigliani. La Belle Romaine, his breathtaking nude from circa 1917, provoked spirited bidding from at least five clients and ultimately eclipsed the previous record for the artist at auction, set earlier this year. That price represents over four times the price realized when it was sold at Sotheby’s in 1999, a then record $16.8 million. The depth of bidding from all over the world, including Asia, Europe, Russia and the United States, was particularly notable”
“It was very encouraging to see multiple bidders on most of the major lots this evening, demonstrating tremendous strength and confidence in works of great quality in today’s market,” ha commentato David Norman, Co-Chairman of Sotheby’s Impressionist and Modern Art Department Worldwide.
Due degli highlights della serata sono stati venduti per beneficenza per YoungArts, the Core Program of the National Foundation for Advancement in the Arts. Le Bassin aux Nymphéas di Claude Monet è stato aggiudicato a $ 24,722,500 (st. $20/30 milioni) e Jeanne Hébuterne (au chapeau), uno dei primi ritratti di Amedeo Modigliani del suo grande amore, è stato venduto per $ 19,122,500, un prezzo ben superiore alla stima più alta pre sala (st. $9/12 milioni).
