Il 9 febbraio nelle sale di Christie’s si svolgeranno due vendite di “Arte impressionista e moderna” e di “Arte surrealista”. La stima pre-sala si aggira tra i 73,880,000 e 109,060,000 di sterline (rispetto ai 56.5/80.8 del 2010).

Highlight della vendita “Nature morte à “L’Espérance”” un’ opera realizzata da Paul Gauguin nel 1901 a Tahiti. È stimato tra 7 e 10 milioni di sterline ed è stato consegnato per la vendita da un anonimo collezionista europeo.  Il quadro, uno di quattro con lo stesso soggetto, venne dipinto come omaggio all’amico Vincent van Gogh. E’ stato esposto in una ventina di mostre in musei: oltre alla prima retrospettiva di Gauguin del 1906, è stato in mostra al MoMA e al Metropolitan di New York, all’Art Institute di Chicago, alla Tate di Londra e alla National Gallery di Washington. Dal 1989 non è più stato esposto in pubblico.

This was driven in a significant way by the demand for rare and market-fresh works of Impressionist and Modern art which represented 7 of the top 10 prices paid last year at auction, 6 of which sold for over $50 million. The category continues to engage new collectors from both established and emerging markets, including China and Russia, and where there is a healthy supply it has been shown that there is a tremendous demand for the rarest and the best. This year’s auction at Christie’s in February will offer a significantly high number of impressive works that have been in private hands for decades, as well as 4 which are offered from the Art Institute of Chicago, all of which will present rare opportunities for art collectors and institutions.”

La vendita di “arte surrealista” si terrà subito dopo quella di Impressionist&Modern. I lotti offerti sono 32 e la stima pre sala si aggira tra i 19,200,000 e i 28,100,000 di sterline.
