comunicato stampa
Art gallery guests, the driving force behind projects, each more inventive than the other, may be of two types: a physical person or an entity, an agency, another gallery… their participation, be it subtle or radical, provides a fresh look at works of art and cultivates fruitful dialogues to
be discovered at the various stands where the event is brought to life.
ARTISTS
the Lahumière gallery asked one of its artists, sculptor Jean-Gabriel Coignet, to set up the exhibition «Face to face, relief sculptures» with the use of his own resources: there, Jean Arp rubs shoulders with Jean Gorin, etienne Béothy, Denis pondruel, and Antoine perrot, blurring the lines between generations. the Lelia Mordoch gallery requested that François Morellet share the exhibit walls with an artist he knows very well: emmanuel Fillot. Although very different at first glance, the work of these two artists is linked in the way space is treated in their works: geometric spatialization for Morellet, geopoetic spatialization for Fillot. While IFA Gallery has invited the artist Zane Mellupe to participate as director at its stand, gallery owner Albert Baumgarten welcomes the installation «salon Fuck-Design» by French artist Rajdar Coll-Part at his stand. Let us also mention performances by Lydia Kavina at Barbarians Art Gallery, and lastly American performer nathalie White at Acte2galerie, who will perform a choreography in a transparent box filled with water.
ART CRITICS/DIRECTORS
For its first participation in Artparis, the Analix Forever gallery has called upon critic Paul Ardenne to design a stand around the theme of «Reality Revisited», seen as «a frame propitious for all possible poetic renditions» by this art historian, who gained renown as director during Force de l’Art 1 in 2006. the Belgian gallery J. Bastien, another new arrival at Artparis, gave carte blanche to critic and curator Daniel Abadie, former Director of Galerie nationale du Jeu de paume. He wanted to compare and contrast two French painters: Gaston Chaissac and Michel Haas. Also, art historian Jean-Luc Chalumeau, the author of some thirty books translated into eight languages, will participate at the stand of the Luxembourg-based Lucien Schweitzer gallery, along with Anna Loporcaro, exhibition director at the MUDAM, the Luxembourg Museum of Modern Art.
ARCHITECTS
As a «Golden Lion» winner at the 1996 Venice Biennial, the agency codirected by architect odile Decq was chosen to renovate the MACrO, the rome Museum of Contemporary Art. she designed the stand of the oniris gallery, which focuses on abstraction. interior architect and set designer Philippe Kaufmann, creator of the new Chanel space at the printemps department store, will participate at the Vieille du Temple gallery stand. through a clever use of walls, he proposes a multiplication of diagonal lines and, in so doing, perspectives, and transforms the space to offer a pluralistic reading of the works it contains. Cofounder of the first internet-based interior architecture agency, architurn, nelson Wilmotte took on the task of organizing the Polka gallery stand at Artparis by arranging photographs by YvesMarchand & Romain Meffre dealing specifically with urban architecture.
«To that end, I imagined the Polka stand as a collector’s interior world. We are going to play with the accumulation of photos, but also the works’ mobility, like that of their creators», explains Nelson Wilmotte, who will also be presenting some architectural and opera staging models amidst the photographs.
DESIGNERS
When an ordinary photo machine is reimagined by the illustrious Philippe Starck, anything can happen! installed at the Kahn gallery, his takes 3D images focused after body detection… the three artists represented at the stand—Ben, Jacques Bosser, and Joël Ducorroy—will create works with visitors in the photo machine in real time. As decorator, designer, artist, and creator of film posters such as the one for Danny Boyle’s Shallow Grave, noart has made a stand completely out of metal for the olivier Waltman gallery, a homage to the architectural structure of the Grand palais, baptized The Faraday Cage».
