06.05.2014 – La Evening Sale di Arte Impressionista e Moderna di Christie’s ha realizzato 285,879,000 $ (53 lotti offerti, 47 sold), il totale più alto per la categoria a New York dal maggio 2010 (nel 2013 $ 158,505,000). 9 lotti sono stati venduti per oltre 10 milioni di dollari, 9 per oltre 5 milioni e 25 per oltre 1 milione. Tra i top price della serata opere provenienti da prestigiose collezioni private offerte in asta: medaglia d’oro per le Ninfee di Claude Monet della raccolta della famiglia Clark ($27,045,000) e medaglia d’argento per il ritratto di Dora Maar di Pablo Picasso dalla collezione di Viktor e Marianne Langen ($22,565,000). Alcune ottime aggiudicazioni ben testimoniano come il valore delle opere impressioniste e moderne sia cresciuto negli anni: il ritratto di giovane uomo di Amedeo Modigliani è stato venduto a $17,637,000 (stima: $8,000,000 – $12,000,000). Il dipinto era stato acquistato in asta da Sotheby’s nel novembre del 2002 per $8,479,500. Un ottimo investimento per il collezionista che ha guadagnato il doppio della spesa iniziale. Anche la scultura di Alberto Giacometti “Femme de Venise IV ” nel 2000 aveva realizzato in asta da Sotheby’s $2,820,686. Stasera è passata di mano per $12,709,000, oltre quattro volte in più. “Les deux soeurs” di Pierre-Auguste Renoir , partito da 4 milioni, è stato aggiudicato a $8,005,000. “L’Escalier” di Claude Monet era offerto a $1,5/2,500,000 ed è stato aggiudicato a $3,525,000. 19 piatti in argento di Pablo Picasso da una stima di $1/1,500,000 sono stati battuti a $3,469,000. “La Fenêtre “di Marc Chagall presentato a $1,4/1,800,000 ha cambiato proprietario per $3,133,000. Prezzo a più del doppio della stima massima per “L’étoile insaisissable” di Joan Miró ($3,637,000). Bene anche Ernst Ludwig Kirchner con “Tangotee” e Camille Pissarro, ultimo lotto in catalogo, con “Le lavoir de Bazincourt”. La collezione di Viktor e Marianne Langen ha venduto il 100% archiviando da sola $79,829,000. Buoni risultati anche per la collezione di Edgar J. Bronfman: le 8 opere in catalogo hanno totalizzato $21,174,000. Tre dei quattro lotti della collezione Clark hanno realizzato $40,927,000: le ninfee di Monet e due opere di Renoir (lotti 8/9/10). Un vaso di fiori sempre di Renoir stimato 3,5/5,500,000 $ è invece rimasto invenduto (lotto 11).

07.05.2014 – Si è conclusa con un totale di $219,010,000 , l’asta serale di Impressionist & Modern Art da Sotheby’s a New York svoltasi il 7 maggio 2014 . Con 72 lotti in catalogo dalle stime comprese tra i 350.000 e i 30 milioni di dollari, l’asta ha registrato 21 invenduti e un lotto (il numero 58) ritirato . La corona del top price se la aggiudica Pablo Picasso : la sua “Le Sauvetage” , la colorata e drammatica tela appartenente ad una serie cominciata nel 1932, oltrepassa il doppio della stima iniziale più bassa ($14M) e trova proprietario per $31,525,000 . Mentre delude e resta invenduta la sua “Tete de Marie-Thérèse” certificata da Claude Picasso e stimata dagli esperti di Sotheby’s $15-20 milioni. Segue il maestro cubista nella top ten “La Séance du matin” di Henri Matisse che sfiora le quotazioni pre-asta ($20-30M) e viene battuta a $19,205,000 . Registra un buon risultato anche la seconda opera dell’artista offerta nella serata “Femme en Jaune” che passa di mano per $8,565,000 , anch’essa leggermente al di sotto delle previsioni. Il bronzo delle aggiudicazioni della serata va invece all’impressionista Claude Monet che vende “Le Pont Japonais” per $15,845,000 , confermando le stime. Superano invece le previsioni il paesaggio “Sur la Falaise à Pourville” battuto a $8,229,000 e la “Cathédrale de Rouen” che raggiunge i $3,973,000 . Molto bene per Alberto Giacometti , presente in catalogo con cinque sculture, tutte quante aggiudicate confermando i prezzi previsti. La più cara è stata “La Place” , venduta per $13,045,000 , mentre l’iconica “Femme de Venise V” , proveniente dalla Collezione di Jan Krugier è stata battuta per $8,789,000 , superando la stima più alta di quasi $800.000. Quattro i Mirò all’asta, ma solo due di essi hanno trovato proprietario. Un “Sans Titre” ha superato la stima – pari a $4-6 milioni – ed è stato assegnato per poco più di $8 milioni ; mentre “Métamorphose” si è fermato a $581.000 . Invenduti “L’espoir nous revient par la fuite des constellations” e “Femme, Oiseau” . All’asta anche due Fernand Léger , “Deux Figures et une fleur” e “Les Maisons” , aggiudicati rispettivamente per $6,325,000 e $3,973,ooo. Clamorosamente invendute due opere delle tre offerte di Camille Claudel , l’allieva di Rodin che circa un anno fa registrava da Sotheby’s il suo attuale record d’artista con il bronzo “La valse” battuto a poco più di $7milioni. In questa vendita solo “L’implorante” ha superato la stima minima di soli 1000$ ed è stata assegnata per $401,000 . Medesima sorte per il suo maestro, Auguste Rodin, la cui “Eve” , una statua in marmo alta circa 79cm, è stata aggiudicata per $4,869,000 mentre il bronzo “Le Baiser” non ha trovato proprietatio. Tra i nomi più celebri dell’Impressionismo, dei cinque Degas in catalogo solo il dipinto “Deux Danseuses Assises” e la scultura “Danseuse Regardant la Plante de Son Pied Droit” sono passati di mano, rispettivamente per $5,205,000 e $1,325,000 . Pierre-Auguste Renoir invece ha venduto “La toilette” per circa $3,5 milioni e “Tulipes” per $1,565,000 , cifra di poco superiore alla stima più bassa; mentre invenduta è rimasta “L’escalier, Alger” , opera proposta in catalogo per $2-3 milioni.
