CHRISTIE’S ASIAN ART WEEK LONDON TOTALS £22.4 MILLION

London – Christie’s leads the Asian art market, after concluding its Spring Asian Art Week in London with a combined total of £22.4 million (US$35.8 million / €28 million/HK$276.8 million) over four days of sales between 15th – 18th May 2012.

Jonathan Stone, Chairman and International Head, Asian Art, said: “The combined sales of Chinese Art at King Street and South Kensington with the two Japanese sales gave us market share overall for the week (59% against our nearest competitor for Asian Art in London). We also achieved market share in Chinese and Japanese collecting categories. The results for the Japanese single owner collection and Chinese works of art at South Kensington are particularly strong and consolidated with all four sales of the week demonstrate Christie’s dominance of the Asian Art market in Europe.
