Brooke Astor “raddoppia”

La vendita delle opere che arredavano l’appartamento di Brooke Astor al 778 di Park Avenue a New York e l’elegante casa di campagna a Holly Hill (più una selezione di gioielli della sua collezione personale) ha totalizzato $18,828,109.
Un risultato eccellente. Già dopo la prima sessione di vendita (su quattro) era stata superata la stima minima pre-asta di tutta la collezione. In catalogo erano presenti dipinti, arredi, oggetti d’arte cinesi e arti decorative. Il 95% degli oltre 900 lotti è stato venduto.
Filantropa e benefattrice, la Astor è morta nel 2007, all’età di 105 anni, dopo aver elargito oltre 200 milioni di dollari in beneficenza seguendo questo motto: “I soldi sono come il concime. Non valgono niente se non li spargi attorno a te”.
