Christie’s, 25/06/2013 – La Evening Sale di Arte Contemporanea ha totalizzato 70,137,350 sterline. Nel giugno del 2012 invece, l’analoga asta ne aveva  realizzate ben 132,819,400. Il catalogo era molto ricco e  il totale raggiunto era stato il più alto per un’asta di contemporary in Europa. Questa sera, sono stati tredici i lotti rimasti invenduti,  su un catalogo di 64.  Il numero 6 “Marseille” di Nicolas de Staël offerto a £1/1,500,000, è arrivato a £3,085,875 ($4,739,904). Fu dipinto nel 1954, quando la natura e i paesaggi divennero i soggetti preferiti dell’artista per esplorare il colore e la forma. “SE 181” di Yves Klein, del 1961, partito da £1,400,000, è stato aggiudicato a £2,693,875 ($4,137,792). “Jetty” di Peter Doig, datato 1994, di scala monumentale (200 x 250cm.), era uno degli highlight del catalogo e le aspettative, anche di superare il record precedente, erano molto alte. Ha realizzato £7,341,875 ($11,277,119), quindi poco lontano dall’aggiudicazione di “The Architect’s Home in the Ravine” a £7,657,250 ($11,975,939),  da Christie’s a Londra a febbraio 2013 (attuale record per l’artista in asta). Sempre suoi  “Canoe Lake”, stimato £80/120,000 e passato di mano per £181,875 e “White Out” un olio di 144.8 x 114.5cm del 1992 venduto per £1,909,875 (st. £700/1,000,000). Una “Tazza di caffè” di  Roy Lichtenstein nella stessa collezione milanese dagli anni Settanta e proveniente dalla galleria del mitico Leo Castelli, ha ricevuto molte offerte e ha superato, anche se non di molto, la stima massima con £2,805,875 (st. £1,5/2,000,000). Con £18,765,875,  “Untitled” di Jean-Michel Basquiat è stato il top price della serata. Realizzato nel 1982 era presentato con “stima a richiesta”. Un altro “double portraits” (“Dustheads”)  il mese scorso ha realizzato il prezzo record per l’artista di 48.8 milioni di dollari a New York. “A Walk to the Office”, un pastello su carta di Lucian Freud,è  stato venduto per  £505,875, secondo Judd Tully di Artinfo al mercante di dipinti antichi londinese  Jean-Luc Baroni. Era presentato a  £120/180,000. Molti rilanci per “Casino la colle” di Jean Dubuffet battuto a £ 946,675 (st. £500/700,000). Tra gli italiani in catalogo, Enrico Castellaniha superato il suo precedente record mondiale: “Superficie bianca n° 32” era stata aggiudicata da Sotheby’s a Milano nel maggio del 2010 per 960,750 € (1,177,908 $). Questa sera, una sua tela estroflessa, “Superficie bianca n. 34” realizzata sempre nel 1966, si è fermata a £1,853,875 ($2,847,552). Buoni risultati anche per Lucio Fontana: un “Concetto spaziale, Attese” (tre tagli su rosso) è partito da £550,000 ma si è fermato a £1,204,275. Si segnala infine un altro record mondiale:  “Buscando La Luz IV” la monumentale scultura (800 x 275 x 215cm) realizzata nel 2001, solo un anno prima della sua scomparsa, da Eduardo Chillida ed esposta nel 2006 al  Guggenheim di Bilbao, è stata battuta a £4,093,875 ($6,288,192) (record precedente dell’artista: $3,734,280)

Sotheby’s, 26/06/2013 – La Evening Sale di Sotheby’s ha totalizzato £75,778,500 ($116,858,025). Il catalogo contava 69 lotti. Di questi 15 sono rimasti invenduti. L’omologa asta di giugno dell’anno scorso aveva totalizzato £69,307,050 ($108,028,899). La prima aggiudicazione di rilievo è stata per John Currin: un piccolo olio senza titolo del 1998, un ritratto di donna con richiami a elementi Rinascimentali che era presentato a 600/800,000 £ ma è stato battuto a 1,142,500 £. Ottimo risultato anche per il lotto seguente: “A Small Sunbather” di David Hockney, uno dei più rappresentati e iconici soggetti dell’artista, una piscina. E’ stato venduto a 1,154,500 £, più del doppio della stima massima. Sempre di Hockney  il lotto seguente, il monumentale “Double East Yorkshire” (152.4 x 386 cm) che ha raggiunto 3,442,500 sterline. “Head III” di Francis Bacon, che era presentato a 5/7 milioni, ne ha realizzati 10,442,500. Mentre il trittico raffigurante uno studio di Isabel Rawsthorne ha raggiunto  11,282,500 £. Bene  Lucio Fontana: un Concetto Spaziale del 1967 (4 tagli su bianco)  ha superato la stima massima con  1,650,500 £ e un altro Concetto Spaziale di due anni prima (6 tagli su bianco) è stato venduto per 4,338,500 £. Il maestro dello spazialismo era presente in catalogo con 5 opere, 2 sono rimaste invendute. “Peinture, 21 Novembre 1959” di Pierre Soulages con l’aggiudicazione a 4,338,500 £ (6,744,198 $) ha superato il record precedente di $5,144,387 realizzato da Christie’s a Londra lo scorso 13 febbraio. Bene la collezione di cinque iconiche rappresentazioni di Borse internazionali realizzate da Andreas Gursky, immagini monumentali e dinamiche che avevano una stima pre asta complessiva  di £2,5-3,400,000. Il primo di questi lotti, la Borsa di Chicago, è stato battuto a 2,154,500 £ e ha più che raddoppiato la stima massima. Bene anche gli altri 4 lotti, aggiudicati entro od oltre le stime. Il fotografo tedesco Thomas Struth era in catalogo con un lavoro della serie “Museum Photographs”, il Partenone a Roma. La stampa numero 9 di una edizione di 10 del 1992. Era presentata a 400/600,000 £ ed è stata aggiudicata a  818,500 £ (1,272,358 $) superando così il record precedente realizzato da Christie’s sempre dalla stampa del Partenone, la numero 7, del 1990 che era stata aggiudicata a 1,049,000 $. Tra gli altri realizzi di rilievo: Robert Ryman “Reference”, 1,314,500 £ (st.450,000-650,000£); Hurvin Anderson, “Beach Scene”, 302,500 £ – nuovo record mondiale – (st. 100,000-150,000 £); Anish Kapoor , “Untitled”,  722,500 £ (st. £ 450,000 – 650,000); Sigmar Polke,  “Untitled”,  1,082,500 £ (st. 500,000 – 700,000 £).
