04.02.2014, Christie’s –  158,953,500 sterline per un catalogo di 48 lotti, di cui 7 rimasti unsold e 1 ritirato. Quattro sono stati venduti oltre 10 milioni di sterline, 27 oltre un milione. Raddoppia Juan Gris: top price “Nature morte à la nappe à carreaux” che, offerta a una stima di 12/18 milioni di sterline, è stata aggiudicata a£34,802,500 ($57,145,705), realizzando il nuovo record mondiale per l’artista che nel 2010 si era fermato a 28,642,500 $ durante una vendita newyorkese del novembre del 2010 di Christie’s. L’anno scorso la Evening Sale aveva totalizzato 98,311,650 sterline (più 38,150,450 per l’arte surrealista). Il top price era stato un ritratto di Jeanne Hébuterne del 1919 di Amedeo Modigliani venduto per £26,921,250. Questa sera oltre a Gris, salgono sul podio, al secondo e terzo posto, l’immancabile Picasso con un ritratto dell’amata Jacqueline Roque in veste di odalisca che ha fatto £16,882,500, rimanendo nelle stime  e Piet Mondrian che ha realizzato £12,402,500 con la sua composizione N II con blu e giallo. Molti rilanci a inizio serata per “Les cylindres colorés” di Fernand Léger che è stato battuto a £12,066,500 (st. 5/7,000,000). L’opera su carta di Henry Moore, “Family Group”, è stata aggiudicata a £1,258,500, rispetto a una stima di 400/600,000 sterline. Nuovo record per Le Corbusier (“Annibal Simla” partito da 300,000 sterline, ha fatto 1,022,500). Qualche minuto dopo la conclusione della Evening Sale, è iniziata l’asta dedicata all’arte surrealista. A questa Christie’s, nel mese di febbraio, dedica un catalogo ad hoc. Il totale è stato di 24,970,000 sterline. E avrebbe potuto essere molto più alto se i lotti 131-155 (parte di “Miro: Seven Decades of His Art”) non fossero stati ritirati prima dell’asta. Una potenziale cifra non indifferente, quella che avrebbero potuto realizzare i 24 lotti degli 85 che fanno parte della collezione che arriva dal fallimento del Banco Portoghese de Negocios (Bpn). La vendita è stata annullata per via delle proteste sorte in Portogallo. La casa d’aste ha dichiarato che “…le incertezze legali create dalla controversia in corso impediscono di vendere queste opere con sicurezza. Abbiamo la responsabilità con i nostri clienti di assicurarci che la proprietà (delle opere) si possa trasferire senza problemi“. A parte la vicenda di Mirò, sommando i due totali si arriva comunque a 176,986,000 sterline (la somma delle stime pre-asta delle due vendite era di 137,110,000  – 199,450,000 £).  “Les chasseurs au bord de la nuit” di René Magritte, in copertina di catalogo, è stato il top price della vendita con £6,578,500; secondo posto per il nostro Carlo Carrà che batte il proprio record  con  “Solitudine”, aggiudicato £3,106,500 ($5,100,873). Il precedente prezzo più alto per una sua opera all’asta era stato realizzato da Farsetti a Prato nel maggio del 2007 quando “La stella (la stella del caffè chantant)” venne battuta a  740.000 euro(994,338  dollari). Segnaliamo anche  “A Mrs. Radcliffe Called Today di Dorothea Tanning, scomparsa due anni fa all’età di 101 anni e moglie  per 30 anni del pittore e scultore surrealista Max Ernst. Il piccolo olio, dipinto nel 1944, è partito da 50,000 sterline ma si è fermato a £314,500 ($516,409) superando così il precedente record d’asta di 343.016 $ per “Le miroir” (Christie’s, febbraio 2012).

05.02.2014, Sotheby’s – Marie-Anne ed io iniziammo a collezionare opere su carta di artisti di ogni epoca. Il loro comune denominatore doveva essere l’intrinseca qualità senza tempo e l’approccio unico e universale al mondo e alle cose.” Nessun concetto potrebbe illustrare meglio il successo delle opere della collezione di Jan Krugier che sono state offerte all’asta questa sera da Sotheby’s se non le parole usate da lui stesso per descrivere come venivano scelte le opere che arredavano le pareti di casa sua. “Qualità senza tempo”. E’ proprio questo che emerge dai primi 37 lotti andati in asta stasera. Ma procediamo con ordine. La qualità di tutti i lotti in catalogo è stata elevata, lo dimostra il numero relativamente basso di invenduti (solo una decina e verso la fine della vendita) e il totale di 163,461,500 sterline (121,075,400£ nel 2013- 104,404,900 evening + 16,670,500 surrealisti). Top price l’atteso Camille Pissarro “Boulevard Montmartre, matinée de printemps” della collezione di Max Silberger che, stimato 7/10 milioni di sterline, ne ha realizzati ben 19,682,500 £ (31,706,540 $) superando di gran lunga il record precedente di 14.601.000 $ realizzato nel novembre del 2007 da Christie’s a New York da “Les quatre saisons: L’hiver/Le printemps/L’été/L’automne”. Molte le aggiudicazioni al di sopra delle stime, la più eclatante “Le Passage” della surrealista Kay Sage che era stimato 70/90,000 sterline, ma è stato aggiudicato a 4,338,500, una cifra superiore di quasi 50 volte alla stima massima! (Nuovo record). Ottimo risultato anche per “L’homme est en mer” di Vincent van Gogh, dipinto dall’artista a Saint Rémy nel mese di ottobre del 1889. Era presentato a 6/8 milioni di sterline e, dopo molti rilanci, è stato aggiudicato a 16,882,500. “Le petit bras de la Seine, Argenteuil” di Gustave Caillebotte ha fatto  1,082,500 £ (st. 400/600, 000). O ancora, “Boléro violet” di Henri Matisse ne ha fatti 9,154,500 (st.6,5/8,5 milioni). Ma torniamo a Krugier. Una parte della sua ricchissima collezione era già stata dispersa nel 2013 da Christie’s a New York con la vendita “Un dialogo attraverso l’arte: opere della collezione Jan Krugier”, asta che però non aveva pienamente soddisfatto le aspettative realizzando 92,5 milioni di dollari contro le stime pre-asta di oltre 160 milioni. La quarantina di lotti in catalogo stasera ha invece superato le attese (£53,260,500 / $86,883,854 – due volte la stima più alta – £18.5/27.1 milioni – 100% di opere vendute). Degas, Cezanne, Ingres, Seurat, Goya, Picasso e Giacometti sono solo alcuni dei nomi che hanno duplicato, triplicato, quintuplicato e anche di più le stime massime. Come “Femme nue debout” di Alberto Giacometti che partito da 120,000 £ si è fermato a 1,022,500 (nuovo record per un’opera su carta per l’artista) . O ancora  la  “Composition au minotaure” di Pablo Picasso, che da 1,8 milioni si è fermata a 10,386,500 £ (nuovo record per un’opera su carta per l’artista) e “Femme au tube” di Manet che da 500,000 è arrivata a 1,426,500 £.
