
Gli esperti di Christie’s si aspettavano un realizzo di 70 milioni di dollari. La vendita “Bound to Fail” (Destinato a fallire) questa sera, domenica 8 maggio, a New York ha totalizzato 78,123,250 $.
Potrà ritersi soddisfatto Loic Gouzer, l’ideatore di questa asta “curata”, giunta alla terza edizione dopo “I Live I’ll See You Tuesday” (2014) e “Looking Forward to the Past” (2015).
“Henry Moore – destinato a fallire” di Bruce Nauman, l’opera che ha ispirato Gouzer per il titolo della vendita, ha fatto $6.997.000, poco al di sopra della stima più bassa (6/8 milioni di dollari). Il top price della vendita è stato per Maurizio Cattelan che, già prima dell’asta, si contendeva lo scettro del re della serata con Jeff Koons, arrivato secondo con i $15,285,000 del pallone da basket in equilibrio.
Dell’artista padovano si è parlato molto sulla scena newyorkese in questi giorni. Per la sua presenza alla fiera Frieze (che si è chiusa oggi al Randall’s Island Park) dove ha ricreato l’installazione che lo ha reso famoso negli anni Novanta (un asinello vivo in una stanza che ha scanetano le polemiche degli animalisti) e per il gabinetto d’oro che dovrebbe venire installato al Guggenheim.
Nella sala di Rockefeller Center stasera il suo piccolo Hitler del 2001, “Him”, partito da una stima di 10-15 milioni di dollari è stato battuto a $17,189,000, dopo una gara sostenuta, realizzando il suo nuovo record d’asta. Il precedente era di 7.922.500 $, battuti nel maggio del 2010 da Sotheby’s a New York per un autoritratto che sbuca dal pavimento. Se nel 2015 i suoi prezzi erano scesi, per ora il 2016 promette bene.
Quello di Cattelan non è stato l’unico record della serata. Segnaliamo quello della nostra Paola Pivi. L’artista milanese, classe 1971, era presente in catalogo con una fotografia che ben rappresenta il suo lavoro con gli animali. Un asinello, da solo, immortalato nella luce del paesaggio marino sopra una barca che sembra alla deriva e che suscitauna sensazione di straniamento, come altri lavori dell’artista, dalle zebre nelle alpi, agli orsi polari colorati. “Untitled (Donkey)” del 2003 (edizione 4 di 7, 180 x 224 cm) era stimato 60,000 – 80,000 dollari, ma il prezzo ha continuato a salire fino a triplicare quasi la stima più alta e fermandosi a 227.000 dollari.
Non ha realizzato il nuovo top price Ana Mendieta. Ma il bidder che si è conquistato “La Vivificación de la Carne: El Laberinto de Venus Series” se l’è sudata parecchio. La fotografia della performer cubano-americana partiva da 70 mila dollari ed è arrivata a 143 mila.
Un’altra donna è stata contesa stasera. Le piume nere della tedesca Rebecca Horn (n. 1944) “Die Kleine Witwe, Schwarzer Federflügel (The Little Widow, Black Feathers)” del 1982 hanno triplicato la stima più bassa con un prezzo finale di $118,750. Superando di un soffio i 118.407 $ dell’installazione Painting Machine venduta nel 2007 da Christie’s a Londra.
Altri record per Neil Jenney (n. 1945) con “Threat and Sanctuary” venduto per $965,000 (stima $300,000 – $500,000); per Olivier Mosset (n. 1944) con “Untitled” aggiudicato a $137,000 (st. $80,000 – $120,000); per Daniel Buren (n. 1938) con “Peinture aux Formes Variables” passata di mano per $905,000 (st. $800,000 – $1,200,000) e John Armleder (n. 1948) con “Chabasite” a $221,000 (st. $60,000 – $80,000)
Tra i prezzi superiori alle stime si segnalano la rana rosa di Martin Kippenberger ($1,325,000) e l’ampolla con l’aria di Parigi e L.H.O.O.Q. di Duchamp (rispettivamete $845,000 e $1,205,000).
