La Evening Sale di arte contemporanea e del dopoguerra non si discosta eccessivamente dal risultato della vendita corrispettiva del 2015 che aveva raccolto 331,809,000 dollari. Stasera i lotti rimasti invenduti sono stati 7 su 65 offerti e 4 sono stati ritirati prima di cominciare (Robert Gober, Franz Kline, Cady Noland e Jeff Koons. Sembra che il suo gorilla sia stato acquistato privatamente prima dell’asta).
Willem de Kooning è volato come da previsioni. Untitled XXV, tornato in asta dopo dieci anni, è stato aggiudicato per $66,327,500. Nuovo record per l’artista, che era fermo a 32.085.000 $ dal 2013 con la vendita di un’altra opera del 1977, “Untitled VIII”, aggiudicata a una cifra di poco superiore alla stima più alta. Mentre oggi le stime sono state di gran lunga superate: gli esperti avevano preventivato un realizzo di 40 milioni.
Untitled XXV era già passato sotto il martello di Christie’s sempre a New York ed esattamente il 15 novembre 2006. In questa occasione aveva realizzato il record per l’artista con una aggiudicazione di 27.120.000$.
Molto bene le opere della collezione di Chiara e Francesco Carraro. I due coniugi veneziani hanno creato una raccolta di arte e Design che rispecchia i loro molteplici interessi, dai vetri italiani alle lampade Tiffany. Parte delle loro opere verrà dispersa anche domani e a dicembre, nell’asta di Design. Questa sera sono andate all’incanto quattro lavori di artisti italiani: Alighiero Boetti, Alberto Burri , Giuseppe Gallo e Mario Schifano. Tutte e quattro sono state vendute ben al di sopra delle stime. Su Twitter qualcuno ha cinguettato “Who is Giuseppe Gallo?”. Il suo Untitled ha superato di nove volte la stima più bassa con l’aggiudicazione a 367.500 dollari, nuovo record per l’artista. Molto bene anche il Leonardo di Schifano che da 250mila è arrivato 511.500; la plastica di Burri che si è fermata a USD 4.951.500 (stima 3/4 milioni) e la mappa di Boetti che ha raggiunto i 2.167.500 dollari.
Tra gli altri record Jonathan Horowitz, classe 1966, che ha visto battere “Obama ’08” a 223.500 $(st.100/150.000) e John Currin. “Nice ‘n Easy” è stato venduto per $12.007.500, battendo dunque se stesso: nel novembre del 2008 questa stessa tela era stata venduta da Sotheby’s a New York per 5.458.500 $. E’ tornata sul mercato dopo qualche anno e il venditore ci ha guadagnato oltre 6,5 milioni!
Portafoglio ingrossato anche per Eric Clapton. L’Abstraktes Bild 809-2 di Gerhard Richter del 1994, stimato 18/25 milioni di dollari, è passato di mano per 22.087.500 $. Fu acquistato da Clapton nel 2001 (durante l’asta della collezione di Ulla e Heiner Pietzsch) insieme ad altri due Richter. Il primo di questi dipinti, che il chitarrista inglese ha venduto nel 2012, gli ha fruttato 21,9 milioni$. Il secondo, venduto l’anno seguente, 34,2 milioni $. Un lauto guadagno se si pensa che nel 2001 aveva staccato un assegno di “solo” 3,1 milioni di dollari!
Record solo sfiorato per Jean Dubuffet. “Les Grandes Artères” aggiudicato a 23.767.500 $ si è solamente avvicinato a “Paris Polka” venduto nel maggio del 2015 per 24.805.000 $ e attuale top price dell’artista.
Continua a tenere il mercato di Adrian Ghenie, anche se non ha fatto fuochi d’artifico come nelle scorse aste. I due lotti in catalogo sono stati venduti a prezzi alti e velocemente. Alexander Calder è stato molto conteso questa sera. Vendute tutte e tre le sue opere oltre le stime. Secondo Artprice 100 dollari investiti nel 2000 in una sua opera valgono in media 665 $ (+ 565 %) nell’ottobre 2016
