Micromosaici con vedute di Roma in asta a Londra da Christie’s.

The Collector: Silver,19th Century Furniture, Sculpture & Works of Art, asta che si terrà da Christie’s a Londra il prossimo 16 novembre, vedrà all’incanto quattro lotti molto particolari.

Si tratta di quattro vedute di Roma realizzate tra la metà e la fine del XIX secolo a micromosaico. Questa tecnica, che ha origine all’interno dello Studio Vaticano del Mosaico della veneranda Fabbrica di San Pietro, un cantiere dove si formano i mosaicisti che decorano o restaurano gli interni della basilica di San Pietro, andò a sostituire i tradizionali intarsi in legno, avorio e pietre dure.

Entrato nel fiorente commercio romano del souvenir, il micromosaico incantò gli stranieri, in visita in Italia per il Grand Tour, e attirò i collezionisti più esigenti.

I lotti presentati a Londra includono sia grandi viste uniche, del Colosseo o dei Fori Romani, sia un pregiatissimo tavolo sul cui piano ritroviamo otto tra gli scorci più caratteristici della città.
