Le passioni di Picasso e l’impressionismo di Monet – nel mirino dei collezionisti asiatici – sono stati i grandi protagonisti della serata londinese di Christie’s. L’asta di Arte impressionsita e moderna ha relizzato 113.863.000 £ che sommati ai 35.729.750 £ del catalogo di Arte surrealista (esitato subito dopo) sono arrivati a 149.592.750 £ . In linea con le aspettative (110-180 milioni circa) e in crescita sul 2017, quando il totale combinato era stato di £136.874.958
La prima asta (65 lotti offerti), quella dei moderni, ha visto 13 invenduti e due ritirati: un Derain da 6/9 milioni (Londres: la Tamise au pont de Westminster) e un van Dongen da 6/7 milioni £ (La femme au collier – fond rouge).
Due i nuovi record realizzati: Georges Vantongerloo che con 1,208,750 sterline ha superato quello precedente del giugno del 2017 (1,085,000 sterline) e i 788,750 pound battuti per una scultura in rilievo degli anni ’30 di Antoine Pevsner (top price precedente 386.500 £). Un terzo record è stato infranto durante l’asta surrealista, con GBP 75,000 di “Artifact” di Roland Penrose .
Ma veniamo ai top price realizzati dai due giganti dell’arte impressionista e moderna, Pablo Picasso e Claude Monet. Insieme le loro opere hanno venduto per 67.384.000 £. I Picasso erano 11 (9+2) e hanno fatto 47.782.750 £, mentre i Monet solo 3 e hanno fatturato 19.601.250 £
Si è classificato come opera più cara della serata il “Mousquetaire et nu assis ” di Picasso venduto per GBP 13,733,750. E’ stato realizzato nel 1967, anno in cui compare per la prima volta nelle sue tele il moschettiere. Stimava 12-18 milioni di sterline. La figura femminile che lo accompagna, dai capelli scuri e i grandi occhi a mandorla, è Jacqueline, l’ultimo grande amore di Picasso. Per tutta la sua carriera è stato attratto e si è concentrato su alcuni “tipi”, classici o mitologici: è stato il malinconico arlecchino, il mostruoso minotauro e il coraggioso torero. Nell’ultimo decennio della sua vita, si trasforma per l’ultima volta nel moschettiere.
Anche altri lotti del maestro spagnolo hanno visto cifre superiori alle stime, come “Femme se coiffant” (GBP 6,758,750) e “Le coq saigné” proveniente dalla collezione di Antoni Tàpies (GBP 5,521,250).
Monet come detto era presente con tre dipinti: “Prairie à Giverny” del 1885 (st. 7-10 milioni) e “Vétheuil” del 1879 (4-6 milioni) aggiudicati entrambi a 7,546,250 sterline e “Pivoines” del 1887 battuto a 4,508,750 £(st. 3,5-5,5 milioni).
Il secondo prezzo più alto della serata (GBP 8,993,750) è stato ottenuto da Edgar Degas con “Dans les coulisses” eseguito tra il 1882 e il 1885. “Studie für Landschaft (Dünaberg)” di Wassily Kandinsky è stato battuto a GBP 6,758,750. Mentre i prezzi più elevati per la Evening surrealista sono stati di nuovo per Picasso (Figure, 1930 £8,333,750- il terzo prezzo più alto della serata) e René Magritte (Le groupe silencieux, 1926, £7,208,750).
L’arte italiana è partita molto bene con le tre nature morte di Giorgio Morandi provenienti dalla collezione “The Eye of the Architect” tutte aggiudicate oltre le stime (vendute in totale per oltre 2,9 milioni), mentre gli altri due italiani in asta sono rimasti al palo (Gino Severini e Marino Marino).
