Il prossimo 13 febbraio Christie’s offrirà all’asta un dipinto di David Hockney del 1963, “Great Pyramid at Giza with Broken Head from Thebes”. E’ stato realizzato dall’artista all’età di 26 anni, durante il viaggio in Egitto, subito dopo la laurea presso il Royal College of Art, commissionatogli dal critico d’arte David Sylvester e dal giornalista del Sunday Times Mark Boxer.
La tela, che segna una svolta per lo stile, le dimensioni e la composizione (infatti è stata realizzata prima del suo trasferimento nelle soleggiate piscine di Los Angeles) fa parte di un’importante collezione inglese. Questa è la prima volta che viene offerta in asta a una stima di £ 2,500,000-3,500,000.
