Il prossimo 4 dicembre, a Londra, la casa d’aste Sotheby’s presenterà due dei più importanti lavori di Canaletto ad affacciarsi sul mercato da diversi anni. Dipinti tra il 1738 e il 1742, all’apice della carriera dell’artista, queste grandi tele rappresentano due dei principali soggetti veneziani dipinti di Canaletto: il Ponte di Rialto e Piazza San Marco. Provengono dalla collezione d’arte della HSBC Corporate uno dei più grandi gruppi bancari del mondo e andranno all’incanto durante la Evening Sale di Dipinti Antichi con una stima di £8-12 milioni. Le due preziose tele seguiranno un tour mondiale tra Hong Kong, Mosca e New York

He was an unrivalled source of inspiration to his peers and his works were sought after by the greatest European collectors. Almost three centuries later, his universal appeal endures, and today his oeuvre is appreciated by an ever growing audience. Asian and Russian collectors, in particular, have shown strong interest in Italian view paintings in recent sales, and we will therefore be exhibiting these exceptional Canalettos not only in Europe and the US, but also in Moscow and Hong Kong.”
