La serata di Christie’s a Londra si è chiusa con un totale di 52.946.250£. La settimana dell’arte di Frieze per la Maison di Pinault sembra continuare ad andare per il verso giusto, dopo il 100% di venduto e i £28,285,525 realizzati dalla vendita della collezione di Leslie Waddington il 4 ottobre che ha inaugurato la art week .
Il catalogo di arte contemporanea e del dopoguerra, esitato per primo, ha realizzato 34,266,000 sterline con una pioggia di record e solo tre invenduti (su 42 in catalogo). Subito a seguire si è svolta l’Italian Sale che ha totalizzato 18,680,250 sterline con 14 invenduti e un ritirato (su 60 in catalogo). Nel 2015 i due omologhi cataloghi avevano fruttato 78,729,000£.
Partiamo dalla Evening Sale. Si è dovuto attendere il passaggio di quasi venti lotti per vedere il primo invenduto. L’auctioneer Jussi Pylkkanen ha batutto un record dietro l’altro. Già la prima opera offerta, il grande olio di Lucy McKenzie che raffigura la ginnasta russa Olga Korbut, ha realizzato 317.000 £, un prezzo oltre 10 volte superiore alla stima più alta e il nuovo record d’asta per l’artista. Subito a seguire Henry Taylor con “Walking with Vito” battuto a 137 mila sterline, prezzo che supera di poco il top price precedente realizzato lo scorso maggio (103.286 £ ).
Record anche per il monumentale Nickelodeon di Adrian Ghenie , un olio dai toni scuri del 2008 con la base lunga ben 414 cm ed esposto in ‘Darkness for an Hour’ la prima personale dell’artista in Inghilterra (nel 2009). E’ stato venduto per ben 7,109,000 £. Oltre a quello di stasera, gli altri tre top price del giovane artista, classe 1977, risalgono tutti al 2016. Il più alto, realizzato lo scorso febbraio, era di meno della metà del risulato di stasera: la sua intrepretazione dei famosi girasoli di van Gogh era stata aggiudicata a 3,117,000 £. Ghenie ha debuttato sul mercato delle aste solo nel 2011, ma nell’ultimo anno ha visto una crescita vertiginosa. Secondo Artprice, nel 2015 il fatturato delle sue opere in asta è stato di 2,5 milioni di dollari. Mentre fino ad oggi, il fatturato del 2016 è già di 12,2 milioni.
Hanno infranto il loro top price: Imi Knoebel, Albert Oehlen, Thomas Schütte (in sterline), Gerald Laing, Yun Hyong-keun . Mentre Anselm Kiefer, Jean Dubuffet e Cy Twombly hanno raggiunto prezzi di molto superiori alle stime.
Anche il catalogo dell’Italian Sale ha visto la realizzazione di alcuni record d’asta: tra i primi lotti esitati Proiezione accumulata di Franco Grignani che da 25 mila sterline è arrivato a 106,250; La Modella Inglese di Giosetta Fioroni ha fatto 56,250 £ superando così le 45.647 £ (60.000 €) di Liberty viennese aggiudicato lo scorso maggio da Sotheby’s a Milano. Presagi di Birnam di Carol Rama da £18,000 è schizzata a 179.000£. L’artista, scomparsa nel 2015, quest’anno aveva già infranto il suo record due volte, a giugno da Wannenes a Milano e pochi giorni dopo da Christie’s a Londra; record anche per una scultura di Gilberto Zorio che è arrivata a 281.000 £.
Ma il re del catalogo è stato Pino Pascali . La sua Coda di Delfino è passata di mano per 2,629,000 £, quasi raddoppiando il prezzo di 1,5 milioni di Muro di pietra (Pietra pietra) venduto da Christie’s a Londra nel 2013. Coda di Delfino fa parte di quella serie che lo stesso Pascali chiamava le finte sculture, trofei di caccia, come colli di giraffa, code di balene, rettili.
Gianfranco Barucchello ha più che raddoppiato il suo top price precedente, realizzato da Il Ponte a Milano nel dicembre del 2015 (32.674 £ /45.000 €). E se prendessimo trenta pittori… questa sera era offerto a una stima di £30-£50,000 ed è stato battuto a 68,750 £. Anche Ettore Spalletti ha battuto se stesso. I 62.972 £ (89.400 €) di “Girandola, grigio” del 2015 da Sotheby’s, sono stati spazzati via stasera dalle 125,000 sterline di Cuscino .
Dei dieci Boetti in catalogo, quattro sono rimasti al palo. Tra questi “Tutto”, uno dei top lot annunciati prima dell’asta e stimato £1,800,000 – £2,200,000. Bene invece Castellani (una Superficie bianca e rosa da £400,000 è arrivata a 1,415,000 £) e “Uomo appoggiato” di Pistoletto , tra gli highlight pre-asta, ha fatto 1,925,000£.
Si vedrà domani come andranno le aste della competitor Sotheby’s.
